Unemployed Bliss
grrrr. i just wrote the majority of this blog, and then accidentally unplugged my computer and lost the whole thing. so lets see how we go recreating a masterpiece.
i have been officially unemployed for about a week now. jade restaurant closed down so that steve and hyun ju could have their baby. she was still working in there by the way, 9 months pregnant. i assume they have had it by now... will have to give em a call...
i went to a few job interviews this week for some dodgy companies. you know, very vague advertisements, and hasty interviews, with an invitation to an unpaid day of interview/shadowing. basically canvassing businesses and peddling junk. another where my 'interview' was actually a seminar the receptionist called it orientation. a group of us were sat in front of a whiteboard and lectured to about the benefits of natural gas. 5 or 10 minutes in the lady behind me said it wasnt for her and she was excusing herself. i piped up and said i didnt want to follow her out the door, but could he please tell us a bit about the actual positions. he said he'd get to it in 20 minutes. i pointed out that would training on product knowledge start after you had taken the position? he said obviously the position wasnt for me and perhaps i should leave..... i i'd never actually found out what the job was.
interviewed with one lovely guy at a placement agency after that, but they didnt really have anything for me right now. so on saturday i took my resume into a few pubs, one of which my roommate, ty, had been telling me to go into for ages. the guy i met there was great. he said they need extra for christmas as they are fully booked up for functions. he said he was aware of the horror stories about the heart and crown, and he knew the supervisor i gave as a reference. so hopefully he does call about an interview next week.
we're trying to find matty a new job too as things went a bit pear shaped at the bike shop. its a long story, but he has missed a lot of work over the last month as he's been pretty sick. anyway, he kind of doesnt work there anymore. joey is looking for kitchen staff, so he's going to meet with him tomorrow. hes worked in kitchens before as a line cook or prep cook.
so, the past few weeks have been pretty cruisy. i have managed to live off my last weeks pay this week, and not dip into the savings.... though will have to for rent next month. grrrr. matt owes me a bit of money too since he hasnt been working, which is why im very keen to get him a new job...... we have been spending a lot of time together -virtually inseparable.
funny story, there are a couple of girls in one of matts classes that he sits with and gets notes off and stuff when he misses class. a few weeks back, i picked him up from school and he told me how class was so boring he had been passing notes with the girls about how boring it was and one of them had said, 'hey, lets go make out'. now, i am extremely secure in my relationship with my boy cos he tells me a million times a day that he loves me. but its other girls i dont trust... he is very gorgeous. so i told him to be careful -they most likely have a big crush on him. he brushed it off, and said they were just joking.
so, wednesday night he made plans to work on an assignment with them. it wasnt a group assignment they were just going to pool resources -at one girls house. i told him he could borrow the car to get there, but make sure he mentioned that it was HIS GIRLFRIENDS CAR. he kept laughing it off, saying that there was nothing to worry about. naturally when he got back to my apartment he had a big sheepish look on his face and comes out with: ok, you were right. she tried to kiss me....
i just pissed myself laughing. i found it so entertaining. and of course happy that i was proved right. while one girl went to get drinks the other did the reach across the table/lean in for a kiss move. matt said he blocked with his elbow, and very soon after made his exit. he really doesnt realise how attractive he is. not just physically. he flirts and he doesnt even know it. he is just very friendly and open and funny. very likeable.
anyhoo.... i thought it was hilarious. he was just so naive about the whole thing. bless his modest little heart.
i had dinner on friday night with the leclaires for real. matts mom was away in vancouver, and i went to dinner at his grandmas, with matt his dad and his dads two brothers. very revealing... and very french. his grandma doesnt speak english so well anymore so there was a lot of french going on. i felt a little better that matt said sometimes even he couldnt follow everything that was said. at least he tried to help me out by speaking english to them even when they were speaking french...
tomorrow im going looking for some nice photos frames, as i finally figured out what to get his parents for christmas. find some nice frames and get some of my photos of australia printed. maybe a nice arty triptych of stones and wood, or some landscapes. his mom is really into japanese stuff too and has a little 'japanese' guest room, so maybe some nice ones from japan too....
